Prolapse ?...or vent gleet?... or something else...shes only 9 weeks old...can anyone help

Good morning...yesterday evening I gently pushed her butt back inside and so far so good...shes very calm considering the amount of time it takes to clean her up... her butt is having spasms non stop...I hope that indicates its keeping its self inside and not getting ready to pop out again...shes still eating drinking and pooping just fine with the exception that the yolk looking stuff is gone replaced with a white more chicken poop look stuff stuck in a dribble not all over her...idk...

The older chicks were with these up until a week ago when they were put in outside coop and run...now these younger 9 week olds will be put in there too at 3 months of age if all goes well...hopefully this little girl be ok to go in too....I also have 12 chicks in my kitchen that are 5 weeks old that will rotate out to teen pen when the others are put in coop outside...i did take notice of the comment about introducing new chickens at night in coop when there at rest...if you know or have any other suggestions please share it with me...my coop is of a good size with plenty of room for around 50 to 60 chickens...the attached chicken run is 25'x75' ...after they all get used to (this is where you live)...i will on occasion let them out of this if I think its safe for a few hrs in evenings...we dont have a big farm but we have enough to do this with our about 100 acres and our neighbors love that I have chickens they will be ok if they chance wander next door...I am very hopeful but also very discouraged about the run of events of bad things happening with my chickens ...Oh did I mention that the shelter top over part of the chicken run collapsed saturday night ...no chicken loss but i had to get out there and fix it first thing Sunday morning...LOL...not a pretty site as it was still raining

the one thing I found to work with the case of whatever this is is the acidified copper sulfate. I tried the nystatin, both oral and ointment, nothing...well it did slow it down for 3-4 days but then it just came back. I finally ordered this stuff from Jeffers and gave 1/4 tsp. to a gallon of water for 5 days. It's gone. I treated everyone except the chicks under 3 weeks of age and other than one dirty bottomed girl, can't catch her to clean her, the brat, no one else has anything now.

Michael Apple mentioned something about mold...I'd like to throw out an observation I have made, repeatedly, with the feeds available from the farm stores. A lot of the bags of grain I have been getting have clumps in it. I've also noticed a slight stale/musty smell with some. I take these back. This is mold in the feed. Maybe not much, but I think enough to cause these troubles some of us are having. Something else, the feed we've been able to get lately has been extremely dusty. Is this because it's been sitting around a long time? Been mishandled? [ I find that hard to believe because the Blue Seal bags break if you breath on them!] Or are they using the bottom of the barrel to fill the bags? According to the dating on the bags, they're fresh, but contents tell another story. If it were one or even two...okay, it happens. 5-6 bags out of 15? That seems a little high percentage wise. Maybe I'm off the wall with this, it's entirely possible, but it was after the grain started getting dusty, that this gleet showed up here.

Are you treating her with antibiotics? It probably would hurt in case of an infection. It sure looks like yolk in the picture, however, she is too young but anything is possible. Nature isn't always kind, it's most likely something isn't right with her. Put white paper under her roost tonight so you can get a better look.

Small hopeful update her poo was almost normal its a bit grainy but has the white cap back...her body temp is more normal (she was on the cold side)...she making quiet chirping sounds as she sits on my lap...i still have no idea what products or products that have been or are still working...i have tried every thing suggested on this thread ...but i am hopeful she might make it...this is said with my guard up as i know things can still go out the window...Thank you all so very much...I am so greatfull to be a part of this flock

Well...I can only say I am....sad....I tried all your suggestions and I thank you very much...little girl tried so hard to survive and became such a complete lap baby...but her poor little body for whatever reason would not keep her bottom inside her...i got up day before yesterday and put her butt back inside...and before that evening she had prolapsed again and was pecking/pulling a huge wound with blood all over...this was prob the 6-7th time over 2 weeks she prolapsed ...I made the hard decision to put her to sleep and end her suffering...I think it was the right thing to do...I hope it was anyway...so my chicken count as of right now is 45 alive and well as far as I can tell from 4 months to 2 days old...with the loss of 5 is this about the average per my numbers...is there a average loss rate per hatched chicks?

KY Chicken Mom, I am so sorry. Darn, it looked promising too. I can't tell you how much I wish it had turned out better for you and your poor girl. In this case, it seems that nothing was going to work and yes, I would have done the same thing myself. Sometimes we just don't get a choice in the matter.
