Manuka honey, so happy to read you are using this! Using Manuka honey, in general, could fill volumes. It's another mainstay in my medicine cabinet. Plus, I use it for myself every day.Thank you.
I lubricated her anus and she managed to push a fairly big one out. So I think it's the issue that the urates are just dribbling out of her without mixing with the poop and effectively softening/lubricating it. I'm no expert on this but it would appear logical because it is constantly dripping - about one drop every 30 seconds. It never gets anywhere near the anus, just more or less around it.
I've just done the final clean, lubrication and protection (Manuka honey) and her prolapse was still inside as I started. Officially she pushed out as I was cleaning her, but it did go back in. I hope this becomes more regular over the coming days.
Thanks also for the info about the ointment. Never heard of it. I'll see if it's available in the UK.
Hello, Glad your bird is better. I went through this a couple of months ago with one of my ISA brown hens very similar to your bird. Her vent was out at least 2 inches. Also had a kind of scabby area. I used Vetericyn antimicrobial spray to clean her vent. I thought that really helped. Then put the manuka honey on it.Now a couple of days later and things have improved considerably.
I think the canestan has worked well and thankfully now the urate discharge has stopped. That is making a huge difference.
She's eating well and she's gone back onto the normal food that everybody else is eating and she's pooping normally, including a lovely white cap on top of everything.
In herself, she's very happy, and he's very grateful for everything chirping away every time I even walk into the room. She's been out into one of the runs on her own and has had a massive dust bath and has enjoyed being out there.

We still have another couple of days of antibiotics and one more day left of pain relief but she seems to have turned a big corner, and I cannot tell you adequately, how relieved and happy that makes me.
Thank you for all your support, your advice and interest. This won't be the last time I post because I'll keep you informed when she goes back to the rest of the flock. But for now thank you. I am hopeful that we're over the worst of it.![]()
