My 9 month old sweet golden comet “Nugget” was fine this morning had laid her morning egg. We came home from church and saw lots of blood on her bottom.. I gave her a warm bath to wipe off blood and it looks like she has a prolapsed vent. What can I do? She now acts like she has to lay a second egg for the day.. which wasn’t uncommon for her in the 6-7th month of her life.. I am limited on supplies
Update Same Evening: gave her a bath in a little epsom salt.. Placed honey on her vent ( I read this could help things go back in)it looked worse see 2nd pic
Update Next morning: She laid 2 eggs, one hard shell, and 1 soft shell between 7:30-9:00 this morning (she laid her normal hard shell yesterday morning also).
As soon as I put the other 6 chickens free-ranging, I placed her in the coop for some rest.. she went straight to the nesting box again. Her vent does look a lot better this morning and even after laying the 2 eggs.. still protruding but definitely a big difference from yesterday.
The top of the vent won’t stay in, gave her another epsom salt bath, tried to feed her a crushed tums, seems to eat great but I haven’t caught her drinking water yet..
