So my white leghorn hen started laying about a month ago, and yesterday night when I went out to close the door for the night I noticed her insides seemed to be coming out her back-end. We gave her an epsom salt bath, put honey on the tissue, and gently pressed her outsides back in, but they won't stay in place. I'm going to try a longer epsom salt soak again, but what do I do if it's still not working?

Getting a prolapse to stay in may not be possible for a few days. The tissue can be swollen, and when the swelling goes down, it may stay in. Keep the prolapse tissue from drying out. Honey, sugar with a few drops of water, vaseline, or hydrocortisone cream are all some of the things that can help keep it moist. Sometime there can be a stuck egg at the same time, and that might cause swelling. A daily warm soak with soapy water or Epsom salts for 10-15 minutes can be soothing, heal tissue, and keep her vent area clean. Do you have any pictures of the prolapse to share? Let us know how she gets along, and some may take a week to stay in.

I don't have any photos, but the tissue is hanging out pretty far. Would you recommend giving her calcium tablets to help move the egg along? How many times a day should I apply the honey?
Thank you so much for your feedback!

Ok, I got a photo. This is after the epsom salt soak and honey. It looks worse than the first day.
