This is my first time with chickens and I seem to have a chicken with a prolapsed oviduct. I noticed it last Thursday (1 week ago today) and I immediately separated her from the other chickens. She is in the dog carrier with minimal light with food and water. At first I didn't think she would make it because she was very lethargic and drooling when I picked her up. I have bathed her several times and got all the crusty white stuff off her slowly throughout the week. I'm using preparation h on her several times a day to keep her moist. I have called several vets and they say it's probably a calcium deficiency since she is only 3 months old and not laying eggs yet. I am giving her plenty of watermelon to keep her hydrated and put some yogurt in her water. Not sure if she's really drinking it, but she loves the watermelon. I have also put oyster shells in her food bowl which she seems to eat. If I didn't know she had a prolapse I would think she was fine. She is full of energy now and seems to be itching to go outside. My issue is that it has been a week now and even though I'm pushing the prolapse in every day several times, she keeps pushing it out when she poops. Lately her poop has seemed normal. Is it normal for a prolapse to take so long to go back in? I'm keeping it moist and doing the best I can to push everything in, but she just doesn't want it in there. Any suggestions?
