Where I am it’s quite late in the eveninb and they’re all in their house (he’s separate). I should have taken pictures earlier but I will tomorrow. I was planning on usuinh coconut oil as I don’t have any Vaseline

I think that would be better and I think coconut oil has some antibacterial properties.

I'd keep him on clean towels also just to make sure he isn't dragging it through something nasty like poo. Tomorrow.
If you have an antibiotic ointment you should probably be using it.

Hello...How is your Drake today?...

Hiya, this morning we picked up some poultry cider vinegar and gave him a cold bath with some of this mixed in. Then we put coconut oil on the area and pushed it back in. It stayed in for a few minutes then right came back out with the next poo. At this point he seemed quite stressed and the others were calling to him so we decided to just let him back in with the others (we don’t have the means/facilities to keep them separated and still allow him access to water). So far he seems happy and has actually been able to pull most of it back in, though it does re-emerge every time he poops. The girls haven’t noticed it as it’s hardly visible so there’s been no pecking or anything. We’re just going to monitor him and keep the area as clean as possible, if it needs amputation we will contact the local avian vets but we’ll leave it a few days to see if he sorts it by himself as he’s giving it a good go!

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and reassurance, we’re just going to keep a close eye on him and if he begins to act different or show signs of infection we’ll take him straight to a vet!

We think we’ve found the cause though; this boy and another (that sadly didn’t make it) were abandoned by a river as tiny ducklings and we saved them. Now as Lucky has turned out to be a boy we theorise that someone vent sexed them without knowing the proper way of doing it and so damaged them. This would explain why they were dumped and why lucky has this problem now! Such a shame nasty people exist

Still, he seems to be in good spirits and is as playful as ever so he’s mostly unfazed by this issue!

That shouldn't of caused a prolapsed Penis if it was in all this time till now. Over exuberant breeding caused it.

So sorry you lost one, Nice that you were able to rescue the two.

Do keep us updated if you can as we are collecting info on the subject and will be doing an article on causes, prevention, and treatments.
