Prolapsed Vent HELP

I had one with a very bad prolapse. I used cortisone ointment. A giant blob on my gloved finger, and put it back in. A few times I just left my finger in, holding it in place for about 30 seconds.

My girl also had non stop watery diarrhea and her vent was working over time pushing that out. I was desperate so I tried a 1/4 immodium multi symptom tablet. The prolapse must mess up their ability to control their poop.

It worked. It took about 5 days for the prolapse to stay in completely. The diarrhea stopped and she's been fine since.

Ok thanks. So should I still try the calcium citrate 600 +vitamin D tablets right?

It does help with muscle contractions. But it won't put the prolapse back in.

If you have meloxicam or similar that can also help with inflammation.
Tablet form is I think 1/4 of a 250 mg. I think liquid is 1ml. But it goes by weight. If you have it or can get it you can search doses on BYC

Everyone says something alittle different
None of us are avian vets. We're all just sharing what has worked for us and what we've found doing research.

And, just like with people, what has worked for one bird in my flock has sometimes not helped another.

We're all just doing the best we can.

I know that, I'm just trying to figure out what will work for Abby since she's been like this for two weeks. And I have to leave next weekend

@Ella_michele08

Try the 1/4 immodium. I swear that changed everything since part of the problem was her vent working overtime to push out poop.

When I used the giant blob of cortisone and held it in place, I thought she would be unhappy about it. But once I had my finger in she totally relaxed. It must have felt better having her insides back where they belong for a few seconds.
