I had an Ameraucana that had a prolapse three out of four years toward the end of her life, she recently passed after 9 years. In her case it seemed that she was a little deficient in calcium. In spring before she began to lay I would offer oyster shell in the pen for free choice and she didn't have the prolapse as often. I have a process that worked, but it takes time and paitence. I would separate her from the flock and keep her in a garage or quiet area in a dog crate lined with a towel. I would give her a dose of nutri drench vitamins once or twice during the week. I would clean her vent and prolapse with Vetericyn and Hydrocortisone cream twice a day, mid morning and in the late afternoon before I would cover her crate with a towel at night. I would gently push the tissue back after treating, but it usually would come back out. I would limit her daylight to 8 hours a day, this is really important to keep her from laying eggs and give her body time to heal. It would take about 7 days of this before I could get the tissue to stay inside. She and I unfortunatly did this three seperate times, but I was able to get her back to being healthy and laying eggs. Wish you the best of luck!Hello I posted on here the other day about this problem but no one responded so I'm back with more information to try again.
I have a hen, about 2 years old, with a prolapsed vent. I have given her multiple Epsom salt baths to keep it clean, I couldn't push it back in or even try because there is a thick crust of poop or something on the prolapsed. I'm having trouble getting it off but I think if I could, I could fix the prolapse. She is alert & strong. Eating and drinking and can pass food and water. I have her in a box in my bathroom after her last bath and put olive oil on the prolapsed as I read it's best to keep it moist and could help with my problem. I could really use some help and ideas as I dont have a chicken first aid kits yet and no vet can see me and even if they could are over 2 hours away.
Some pictures are below I'm really hoping to help this girly and not have to cull her.
