today i came home after being away at a softball tournament for the weekend. i checked on the girls right away and noticed something hanging out of the one's butt. idk exactly if she's prolapsed but it looks kind of like a ball of intestines. however, she's been acting mostly like normal and has been eating. i collected the eggs and one was bloody and sticky. idk for sure if it's hers but it seems like too much of a coincidence. what can i do??? she's 2 yrs old and a very consistent layer, almost every day. i have her separated and cleaned her up, put prep H on it and pushed it back in. but it came out almost right away and is now leaking this wierd yellowish clear liquid. PLEASE HELP!

You need to isolate her and keep her in a dark confined area. What you have done so far is good, try doing this: place her on her back on your lap and gently massage her lower abdomen by the vent so see if she will relax and possibly pull the protrusion back in and keep it in.
Pop a movie in the TV and have some quality time together.....You can use Prep H up to four times a day. IF you do have an avian vet give them a call. Also lots of info on BYC...hope that helps.

ok thanks. unfortunately we don't have an avian vet but i found one nearby on the AVA website and emailed her. Cinnamon (my hen) made it through the night. i know she ate a little bit b/c i hand fed her but idk if she's drinking. what if she tries to lay an egg? i can't stop her can i?

she died yesterday. :'( her vent had been healing and i thought all was good. i think she ended up being egg bound. she hadn't laid in about 6 days. i found her on the ground yesterday all curled up. luckily the others hadn't pecked at her or anything so.... this is my first loss. :(

I'm so sorry. I had a Quail d'Anver prolapse about 3 days ago.  I was doing some research and I guess they really just have a 50/50 chance.  There's not much to do but keep them comfy and hope for the best.  I'm sure you did all you could and that she was happy.

I sm so sorry you lost her...my heart goes out to you.....:hugs

My hen died today, if that makes you feel better. Not much anybody can do but hope. Mine wasn't eating enough (I got her to eat some scratch and force fed her some soggy oatmeal and bread) but just fell asleep and never woke up.

Like yours, she was doing great and I thought she would make a full recovery, then she just started going downhill fast.
