We have a 5-year-old bantam hen and found her today with about 6 inches of intestines hanging out of her vent. Not sure if the other chickens did this or if it was from laying an egg. The question is is it possible to even save her? Or is it likely if we push it back in that she will just die slowly?

I would agree that a prolapse of the intestines like that would be very bad, and it might be necessary to end her suffering. Many times a prolapse can be pushed back in if it is just an inch or so. When chickens lay an egg some may have a slight prolapse that goes back inside once the egg is out. If other chickens see the red or see a prolapse staying out, they will peck at and sometimes pull out the insides. Let us know what is happening now.
