A few weeks back I had an EE chicken, almost a year old, with a prolapsed vent. I checked here and did all the recommended things, Prep H, isolating her, etc. Well, she improved and I kept my eye on her until she had laid a couple eggs, then put her back with the main coop. Well, about 3 weeks after returning to the big coop, I came home from work and she was dead. This was last Thursday. Now today, I have another EE that has the same problem. My daughter called hysterical because of course, she assumes this one is going to die too. Does anyone know if this is a problem that EEs have, maybe a genetic disposition? If so, I don't want to purchase any more of this variety, I get way too attached to my pets and it's hard losing them. Is there anything else I can do besides Prep H to remedy the problem?

first what amt of protein is the laying mash?

They are laying too large of eggs?
aalso has the chickens been fed a lot of corn as treats?

if so they have much too much belly fat and makes it harder to lay eggs with out straining
the best answer is to provide a feeder with whole oats and feeder with 16% layer feed and NO CORN AT ALL

mainly the oats will be good for them to get rid of the belly fat and very good for laying eggs

also have you been using 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar per gallon of water
do this for a couple weeks daily and then 3-5 times a week there after

this brings the gut flora into balance
