Prolapsed Vent

I have a Red Star who has just started laying about a month ago who has a prolapsed vent. It is pretty small (compared to some I have read about!) about 2 inches...smaller than a golf ball. She is eating and drinking fine and doesn't at all seem to be bothered by the issue she has going on....I have washed her and used honey and prep H, but it keeps popping back out. Although, I may not have pushed it in far enough after one thread I read...I just kind of popped it in-not pushed it 'back up'. Will try that next...
Any other suggestions?

I have just had a hen with a severe prolapse, dragging the ground. With soaks and hemroid cream I got it to the point of small orange size. We were going to put her down but she wasn't acting sick, when I would try to push it back she would make noise and push it right back out. She was able to pass poop, albut gross and messy. So instead of putting her down I gave her prednisone. I gave her 5 mg and cleaned the prolapse best I could and then sprayed it with Asea and covered it in olive oil. That was Monday, this morning she has no prolapse at all, everything went back in on its own.
Not sure it will stay but it has bought her more time.
I have been giving her 5 mg of prednisone twice a day since Monday.

One of my Araucauna's prolapsed about a month ago, I did everything I was supposed and she was fine until today. I was out in the chicken house feeding and watering and she had prolapsed again and was bloody. So, I put her down. I hope I did the right thing, because I don't like to see animals suffering, I know she was in some pain, she was way too easy to catch.

Such a difficult issue to deal with - one of mine prolapsed badly, I treated her for in excess of ten days - honey, prep-h, baths, massage - she got somewhat better and seemed comfortable even with approximately 1" of her vent exposed! She ate normally, drank normally but I was sure she had developed an infection as despite all of my efforts her vent started to blacken in colour - I euthanased her as I was convinced that she was never going to get better - it was very hard to make that decision but her interests were of paramount importance to me and I couldn't bear to think that she would die from an infection...

I hope that your girl is one of the success stories.... don't give up hope on her unless she gives up on you, it is messy and not pleasant for either of you but you are doing so well for her!

I wanted to give an update on my Babs and her prolapsed vent. This morning after squirting her backside with peroxide (as I have done since Monday), with my gloved finger went to put the Prep H on the prolapse and found that the prolapse is going back inside! I know that this isn't the end and she will probably prolapse again, but for now I am happy that my girl is keeping on keeping on!
