I just ordered our first batch of meat chicks. They should be here next week. I'd like to brood them in the coop we're building but my husband questions whether or not it could get too hot in the coop since in sits in the sun for most of the day. There are windows and we wouldn't have the light on in the heat of the day if it was warm enough.
Would it be better to make a makeshift brooder in the barn out of the heat? (ETA-I'm sorry I wasn't clear...I should have said, "...out of the heat of the sun")
Thanks

So I'm not sure if the barn is even ENOUGH heat. Have you measured how hot it gets in the barn?
Oops...I didn't pose the question properly.

They would have a lamp regardless of whether they’re in the coop or the barn. The coop isn’t finished just yet but the question is wether the coop, in the heat of the day, could be too hot. I'm pretty sure we could maintain the right heat in the barn. I was trying to utilize the coop from start to finish though.
