I have a hen who seems only to stay alive as a form of spite so she can get more sicknesses and cause me worry. I don't know how old she is, but she's a fully grown Rhode Island Red who lays eggs occasionally. She got fly strike a week ago and has been seemingly recovering well for once in her life. This is my first bird and my first case of this, so I want to make sure she's not just developing some other crazy thing.
I massaged the maggots out (gloves on and prayers said) in warm soapy water and haven't seen any more since. I've been spraying Vetericyn once a day. There's a hard dark scab over it now (will include pictures) and her poop has gone somewhat back to normal. I haven't seen a maggot since. The skin right next to it (just above the vent) has a large, very hard lump that has me worried. Could it be more eggs? I want to make sure she's on track to a proper recovery because, again, she lives against all odds and always has a new disaster ready.
