It really bothers me to see the sloppy way so many of us use grammar! Seems so many don't know the difference between THERE, THEIR, and THEY'RE or TWO, TO, and TOO, or YOUR vs. YOU'RE. Present tense, past tense, future tense and singular vs. plural not being used correctly are also a problem. Spelling and punctuation are both lost causes! I'm not an english teacher but this kind of thing frustrates me! Does this frustrate anyone else? Give some examples.
P.s. I know that at times I have been guilty of all these things.

I notice it but it doesn't bother me - I am thankful we are not all conversing auf Deutch and have to deal with congegations and super perfect tense as well as past present and future tense! - Nightmares from when my folks sent me to the IBM kids german school!
Actually, I loved it!

YES! It bothers me too! I see it and hear it all the time and I always want to correct people!

My cousin for example home schools her kids, and said something along the lines of "I was going too slow" (I don't remember exactly what she said but it doesn't really matter I guess). I almost said "slowly" out loud. If you are the only education your kids are getting, shouldn't you speak correctly?

i am guilty of that but i don't get frustrated with it. not everyone got or gets an a in english class i know i didn't lol as long as i can understand what someone is saying or if people can understand what i'm trying to say then i think its perfectly fine. maybe we should have the grammar police

no it doenst bother me at all. please relax.

i'm married to an english major and i drive him nuts by making up words all the time. but then eventually he starts using them. ha ha

also i think that some people type phonetically what they 'hear' in their heads which causes some of the flubs. personally i type as fast as i talk so i just mumble and stumble over the keys sometimes.

so THEIR!
;-)
just kiddin'

Well I am sure that is on the way.

For now, I just try to be a shining example in my own posts and forgive the trespasses of those who make errors in other posts.

I home schooled my daughter last year. It was a wonderful year! She taught me a lot! I think she did alright too!

As someone who was only in school until the fifth grade I don't use the best grammar. Honestly if you can understand what the other person is posting I don't see why it bothers anyone.. My grandmother only received a third grade education and can barely spell, let alone use proper grammar but I would hope she would be made to feel comfortable on this forum not feel like she shouldnt be on here because of her lack of education..

The education comes from the books, not necessarily the words the teachers say. (At least in homeschooling, which i've been since 2001).

PS. Honestly for me the education didn't even come from the books, i was taught basic math, basic reading "no, yes, hi, etc etc" and how to sound out words.. I just have trouble taking stuff in from books, i guess it's the mentality of not liking to do school work...

I taught myself how to speak fairly proper, i know i still don't unless i am doing something like writing a article/something important. And learnt (yes i know it is learned, but im from the deep south

) how to spell, and read by playing internet games and talking in chat rooms! Math.. Well i guess i will admit that came from the books a little but mostly i figured it out myself when i started selling stuff, and figuring up how much money i should get/pay.. Plus i used to play with a calculator.

I didn't know the law allowed people to let their kids drop out of school in the fifth grade. In any event, you are a shining example of the idea that you don't have to go to college to learn basic language skills. I can see by your post that you clearly understand the importance of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

edited to correct spelling!!

i do think this thread is getting a bit argumentative i just don't see how grammar makes or breaks a person i type fast so i do not go back and correct everything that isn't to too or their there or where were if you can understand it why should there be a problem just my humble opinion
