I have the opportunity to add a lovely 6 month old Polish pullet into my small, mixed backyard flock. What would you say the pros and cons are of owning this unique and quirky breed?

Polish tend to be low on the pecking order, so watch out for crest-plucking. Beyond that, I love the breed! Beautiful and funny!

They look like lovely birds, I have heard that they are easily startled because their crest limits their vision(con) but their quirky actions are part of their appeal(pro), If it were me I would add the pullet, but I have been dying to try them out anyway..

Agreed. I've always found that Polish get picked on in mixed flock. I always recommend a separate flock for Polish.

Well, I took the plunge and decided to acquire the Polish hen. Meet Moira.

I have two in my flock and they are bantams so smaller than regular polish... They never get picked on because they're too fast. Our jersey giant chases them, but he's to big and slow. None of my other chickens bug them and they all get along. I haven't seen any crest pecking. They get along with our ducks too.

That polish is gorgeous!
