pross/cons of chickens?

I was in error. My DH told me he'd bought a 25# bag of layer pellets for the price mentioned. I went to get it out of the truck and discovered that he'd bought a 50# bag.

$60 for 50#'s is just not right. Even if you only have 6 hens that's still alot of money.

The expensive feed (purina) is only 17 for 50 lbs

My bag was $12.

He told me it was $12 for 25# but when I went to get it out of the truck it was 50# and I had to get one of the guys to lift if for me.

I'm not sure whether I'd call it a con or not. It's quite a walk to the coop in the last picture. I had only snow blowed a path once today. I'm waiting til the morning to do it again. We did get 10 + inches and it was warmer just the day before. In the high 30's so there is mud under the snow. In fact I was just sitting outside in the sun yesterday.

BUT I enjoy the snow blowing as a form of exercise. It's the wicked cold I don't like. I'm a sun person.
