Has anyone tried using a spare egg shell to patch up a broken incubating egg? One of my silkie egg just got mashed a couple days away from hatching. So to protect it I've stuck half a fresh egg shell snugly over the exposed chicks bottom to hopefully offer protection and avoid moisture loss. I'll update on how it goes

It may just work. Monitor closely at hatch time to assure that the chick is able to pip and successfully exit the egg. Good luck.

Chicken died I think the fact the membrane broke and quite a bit of fluid fell out just was too much. I still love this prosthetic egg idea though! It really sealed the break and kept him nice and moist in there!
