Protected bat species = poor lady

She can build bat boxes and hang them outside her home and then she would not be relocating them or harassing them. Bat boxes are two sheets of plywood about an inch or so apart, with a few slats of wood screwed between them to support them and cut drafts. My sister is a wildlife biologist and has a whole program of public education she does on the subject. They have specs for different species of bats as to how far apart the sheets of plywood need to be for the bats to feel like they are safe and will use the box. If she knows the kind of bat, the scientific name for it, I can find out the dimensions of the boxes she needs to build from my sister.

Edit, here's a link to how to build a bat box.

I would imagine that, at this time of year, there would be baby bats in the attic as well, hence the idea of locking them out when they leave at night may just lead to a lot of rotting bat babies in the attic

There's a migratory species act (it's international) that doesn't allow for the disruption of the breeding season of migratory species. May just have to wait until they migrate out?

love bats, we actually have some that live behind the shutters on our house! But, when we were looking for a farm, we were in one with a serious bat problem. The attic was full of them, and boy did that house smell! It can't be healthy for her, so there's got to be a legal way for her to relocate them without incurring costs (besides cleanup costs). Hope she's able to find a solution!!
