I got an older square Hovabator. Is there any reason I couldn't build a protective plywood box to put it in and just take the lid off when it's in use? I even wondered about lining the box with foam to add to the insulative value.

Good idea? Bad Idea? Been tried by anyone?

Don't forget to allow for air flow! Without fresh air, they won't make it.

I've never heard of it but it sounds like a good idea (the box that is). It would keep your bator from getting knicked and should help maintain the temperature while in use. I don't know about adding foam though. You may want to try that and just let the bator run for a few days and see what it does to your humidity.

I think all the air holes are in the top and I won't be putting the wooden lid on while it's running. But htans for the warning, I'll check when I get home.

I believe you'll need holes in the bottom too, hence air "flow". Good air comes in from bottom, bad air escapes through the top. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Nope your correct. but if bottom holes have
been covered you will see Humidity
generate under the Bator.
