Protective chicks ❤️

I just put my few weeks old chicks in with the month and a half old chicks, one of the younger chicks(Crutchie/chicken joe) has an immobilized leg, my smallest of the bigger chicks, an EE,(Salt) adopted her, one of my cinnamon queens(Paprika) started attacking Crutchie, when Salt heard her squawking and ran/flapped at Paprika scaring her away, when Salt went over to me Paprika tried to peck Crutchie again but Salt saved her again and stayed standing with her for the next few hours
(Salt is the grey one in the back of the third picture, Paprika is the second and Crutchie/Chicken Joe is the first)

Also, kudos to you for taking care of Crutchie rather than culling a less-than-"perfect" chick. I have a Bantam chick whose toes are curled to one side, but I expect Maxie will grow up just as happy as my Sally, whose leg surgery left her as more of a hopper than a runner. Despite her "handicap," she holds her own with bigger chickens and YELLS better than anybody else.

Will do! I actually have two rehab chicks, my cuckoo Maran roo used to have splay leg, we fixed it though. I don’t think there’s any reason put Crutchie down, she’s perfectly fine hopping around and flapping in only one leg
