She stood there, next to her mother, and watched the snow fall. It whirled gently down to the ground. As she watched, a mountain goat came into view on the mountain towering in front of them. She gazed at it hungrily. It shivered in the cold, icy winds, and moved on. The young snow leopard lost all hope of survival then. Suddenly, her mother tensed. She jumped lightly down from their cave entrance, and padded along the slope of the snow-covered mountain. The mother crouched down to the ground. She crawled along the side of the mountain. Her daughter watched her. Cold stung at her ears and nose. Suddenly, there was a cry from the direction of where her mother had gone off to. Smiling, the young snow leopard followed her mother's tracks, knowing that she had caught a mountain goat. A dark shape came into view. Suddenly, her heart began to beat fast. It was her mother. She hurried forward against the bitter wind, and looked down at her still face. There was a growing spot of blood on her mother's chest. She sprang backwards as the snow around her crunched. Several tall humans came into view, and picked the young leopards mother up. They carried her away. Never again was she seen. At least, not in the mountains.
