My darlings are 8 weeks old and one of them has a little bit of angel wing developing. I've been mixing oatmeal with 18% chick feed (Nutrena) since they were 2 weeks old -- 3/4 feed, 1/4 oats. Is that formula too rich in protein at this age? I switched to oats vs oatmeal a week ago. They get mealworms for treats (and love them!), maybe the worms are adding too much protein?

I'd love any recommendations to make sure they are getting a good mix.

Thanks!

I wonder a lot if it isn't genetic more than protein. So many of us fed Purina Flock raiser crumbles and never had any issues with angel and I believe it's 20%. @wits end gardens be sure to wrap your ducklings wing it can be fixed.

I'm glad it can be fixed! Now to find a thread on how to wrap her wing... :-)

If you're cutting the feed with oats to lower the protein yet feeding high protein mealworms you're kind of defeating the original purpose right?

The info on the mealworm bag is 50% protein; so definitely works against the oats. But the amount of worms is waaaaay less than the feed / oatmeal. Still, I should probably dust off those old algebra skills and make sure I compensate. :-)
