What is a good simple way to add extra protein in their diet? I'm told this will help with cannibalizing. My roo and my EE are getting the raw end of that deal.

try feeding a bit of scrambled egg or chopped boiled egg.

Thanks for the tip- any advice on how much and how often for 11 chickens in below freezing weather?

some people feed about 2 eggs a day, but with 11, i'd say three, scrambled or chopped.

Edit to say: you can also do it biweekly and thats also as good

Some also use catfood but with the warning that it does contain a decent amount of salt so do so in moderation. My chickens scare the cat away from the dish and steal her food.

Thanks for the tips. I wondered about the cat food because the friend I got them from said add round cat food, but the site said not to. Does the added protein fix the cannibalization?
Also, I really like the egg idea. Thanks for the info.

I've been giving more protein lately there has been some back pecking. Today it was chopped beef heart. Also I've been building up the egg supply and give give them ground up hardboiled eggs. They will also eat black bens and garbonzos but the heart and chopped eggs are favorites.

Everything gets a little yogurt with it and they just go crazy!!!

your welcome! just make sure the eggs don't resemble a freshly laid egg or you'll have a lot more problems on your hands!
