Yes and no, the aluminum is thick enough it wont just fall off, but is fairly easy to bend, you only have to open it about 1/2 inch and slip it around the leg. I am pretty strong, and I can just squeeze them back tight (but not too tight) with my fingers. I'll go get pics...

Mine are VERY hard to tell apart... there is really only 2 that look different and all the other 9 look identical... it'd be nice to know which one is pecking at my feet, or which one keeps hoping the fence, lol...

Stupid question but does aluminum rust? Or does it need to coated with something?

Let me know when I can place my order please.

Aluminum does not rust, that's why we chose it.

I think we will start to take orders next week as we are still tweaking how to get them more perfectly rounded, and working on how to get the numbers a little more straight. Also note, they will be aluminum colored NOT white... the white scratches too easily.

Get your numbering systems ready! I have all the numbers and letters but NO special characters such as . < , @ and so forth... I can do spaces. We will make however many you want, from 1 to whatever, and will ship them in a flat rate envelope.

We did leave some material overlapping as you will see in the next picture, that way you can adjust it as they grow.

Aluminum is the faster rusting metal you'll ever encounter, but the aluminum oxide (rust) is bound very tightly to the underlying metal. This "Rust' forms within a second of scratching the service of the metal, and seals the exposed surface from the air preventing further oxidization or rust.

From a practical standpoint, you can say that aluminum will not rust away, because the oxidization process normally prevents further rust. However, you you place mercury on a block of aluminum, you can literally watch it rust away as if it's being eaten. The Mercury prevents the aluminum oxide from bonding to the aluminum and the oxidization process will continue.

Outside the being in contact with Mercury, aluminum is a very stable metal.

We've been making signs for the last 20 years out of aluminum, and have yet to have one rust... At least to the naked eye.

I don't think the chickens legs will be being dipped in mercury.

Every one of them rusted in less than a second after exposure to air. As stated, the aluminum oxide is bound tightly to the base aluminum and this prevents further rust or oxidization.

Aluminum is not found pure in nature, this is because it oxidizes so readily that the grinding over time has turned almost all aluminum into aluminum oxide. A special electrical process is used to create pure aluminum.

But once again, outside of exposure to mercury, you won't see aluminum rust away. It's take many many decades of abrasion for aluminum to rust away. It basically ends up getting sand blasted by particulants in the air.

I will start selling them next week.

I will custom make them for each individual, whether you want one or a hundred.

A-Z and all the numbers available.

We will ship them in envelopes, so shipping should be cheap.

We are guestimating about $1.00 apiece as they are all custom made by hand. So if you want ten, it would be ten bucks, plus the shipping. Let me know if you all think this is fair.

Thanks for looking!
