Hello!
I am a freak for omega-3 eggs, and someone suggested that I use this http://www.groworganic.com/omega-3-chicken-forage-blend-irrigated.html, it's like flax grass type stuff. But of course I immediately saw the word 'poison', and so I looked into prussic acid poisoning, and it sounds like some pretty nasty stuff, does anyone know about it? Or if it is an issue with chickens??

the warning about not to graze horses on that grass due to prussic acid is not really correct. there are no known documented cases of horses dying from prussic acid poisoning. Johnson grass can have problems with prussic acid due to frost damage or drought damage and can be toxic to cattle. we have johnson grass everywhere here, it grows like a weed and you cant kill it. my guess the flax type grass in that pot would be nothing to worry about. would have to look and see if prussic acid can make it through a hen then into an egg. and at that I think it would take a lot of eggs to make you sick.

Cattle can die from prussic acid poisoning in feed but there has to be some pretty extreme drought damage for that to occur. We do generally test our cane bales for high levels but have only had them come back as moderately high one time.

Johnson grass can be a problem, especially when it infests fields of Sudan grass. They look so similar.
