One of my silver hens (have 2 females and a male) took the notion to start setting the other day. They'd been slowing down on laying, and so I thought I'd let her, so I gave her some melanistic ringneck eggs to sit on. She seemed like she'd be a dedicated mom, she was protective of her nest and stuff.
Today though, she broke up all the eggs and ate them.
And I noticed also this evening that one of them (her or the other silver hen) had laid an egg, which she (or they) had also broken.
That's a bad habit to start.
