Pucker Butt lol

I just noticed that for the first time today. I'm glad I'm not the only chicken mommy who keeps a close eye on behinds. I was actually thinking there was something wrong with me for observing such a thing.

ETA: That ridiculous looking chick is Elmer - it was glued in the egg. It now has a very nice white poof on its little head.

Thats what "buttholes" do. The less technical term that a Veterinarians use is "winking". The sphincter muscle of the Cloaca is constantly contracting as fecal matter moves through the large intestine. The muscle is constantly active and moving and your Veterinarian may check for the winking reflex in animals to determine proper bowl control function.
