my hen has not been laying any eggs recently, although that may be because they are all moulting. but she usually does lay even if she's moulting, she's not
moulting crazy like she's bald, but you can see some missing feathers on her wing. She usually stands still in one spot sleeping, but if the other chickens and little rooster come running around and stuff and disturb her, she also joins in. as in she normally stays puffed up and sleepy but then if I try and catch her, she makes an attempt to run away and does squawk a little. its a lot easier to catch her though. if she has been staying still sleeping for really long, she does move and scratch about. but normally only moves if the rest of the flock have moved on to another part of the garden or if there's a commotion going on (the little rooster challenging everyone to fights). she occasionally comes for treats, but not as boisterous as she used to.
I will attach pictures later, but it really is just a puffed up hen standing

Do you have a picture of her standing? How old is she? Is her crop empty, full, hard, or puffy? Is her tail up or held down? Feel for any weight loss by picking her up. Look for any lice or mites on her skin under the vent and elsewhere. Will she eat some treats of egg or wet chicken feed? Lastly, what do her poops look like? Most chicken do not lay eggs during molting. Reproductive disorders, crop problems, parasites are things that may be common. Have you wormed her lately?

Ill send a picture around tomorrow because my mum accidentally deleted the ones I took today. She is 1 years old. I did feel that she lost some weight, before she was actually quite heavy for her size, she literally was dense. today when I picked her up, she did lose weight but wasn't light. she will eat some treats but I haven't tried egg or wet chicken feed. I haven't felt her crop (sorry) and ill check for lice. How do I know if she has it, are they just black crawling dots? Her face is red and so is her comb. I am not sure about her poop specifically, but haven't seen any concerning poops. I do see some watery, milky poops once every couple of days though.

Be sure and check her crop. When I look for lice or mites, I look under the vent and belly first, parting the feathers, and looking all over for quick or slow moving beige to tan bugs. Lice leave clumps of white eggs at the base of feathers, while mites leave brown specks on skin. Some mites are on them 24/7 while some may only come on them at night, hiding in the cracks of the coop during daylight. Here is a good link for what to look for:

She is indeed poofy, and very pretty. I would feel of crop to see if it is empty, full, hard, or puffy. It should feel empty in the early morning, or she could have a crop disorder. If she is overweight, fatty liver disease might be a possibility. If she is close to molting age around 16-18 months, that may be why she is acting sleepy. If you see any abnormal poops, please post pictures. Reproductive disorders and worms are some other possibilities for illness in hens. I would worm her and make sure she has no mites or lice. If her crop is not emptying by early morning before she eats or drinks, you can give some chilled coconut oil, cut into small pieces. Let us know how the crop feels.

I felt the crop and it was slightly soft/squishy but its been like that before loads of times. but it also felt a little lumpy, like there was a slightly squishy crop with a less squished ball inside or something. it felt like it had before, though. She is around 13 - 14 months old.

so I tried to check for lice and stuff but I think ill check again tomorrow with someone to help because she had LAYERS of feathers I literally thought she was moulting and she's missing some wing feathers so I caught her and tried checking her belly but it was like 2 inches of feather 😭
what I did see though was like normal skin but there were some white dots in some areas just on her skin, not on feather shafts or anything. It didn't really look like the pictures in the article and I thought it looked more life dandruff or something.
Poops so far are all good and ill make sure to send pictures of any worrying poops.

aw thanks so much 😁
