Hi all !
We recently introduced two new buff orpingtons to our flock. The one who is larger, almost twice as big, has very swollen feet and raised scales. First we thought it was bumble foot, but there is no sign of a cut or infection. She otherwise is very active and still runs for treats, and can perch.
Now we believe it is leg mites. One of our original chickens (green feet in pic) has started limping, like her right foot is uncomfortable when walking on it.

We have soaked and scrubbed all of their feet, and then applied campho-phenique and then vasaline. And plan to do that a couple times a week. We also cleaned out their coup and put in new bedding.

Can anyone identify if this IS leg mites ? Is it something else ?
(Also not sure if her toe was broken in the past, before we got her)
And how should We go about treatment?
We don't want it to spread and want to make sure we are doing the right things to help fix the problem!!

I'm not good a diagnosing but this is what I have in my notes for Scaly Legs/Mites....
Scaly Legs - Soak in warm water & mild dish soap. With toothbrush scrub with vinegar, garlic or Neem Oil. Smear leg with Coconut Oil. Clean out coop; remove shavings; spray Orange Insect Spray or DE, spread lavender, lemon grass, thyme, wormwood in shavings.

Not sure about those "lumps/bumps" on the legs in the first three pictures, bites?

Check under the foot of the "green foot" chicken if you see any scabs ... Bumble foot = noticeable scab....
Bumble Foot - For mild cases of pododermatitis, changing to a softer substrate, exercise to increase blood supply to the foot, soaking the affected foot in warm water, and the use of keratin softeners (petrolatum jelly, A & D ointment, e.g.) may be all that's needed. The foot can also be soaked in a dilute chlorhexidine or iodine solution which are available in your local feed store. If there's a break in the skin, then soaking in a solution called Tricide-Neo with an antibiotic can speed healing Dr Michael Salkin
