Last night one of my mother's dogs started with diarrhea. Today, her other one has it, also, and both are puking. These two dogs had bones and drippings from a pork roast that she was cooking. My mother's third dog is not ill, and she did not partake in the goodies being passed out last night. Are dogs susceptible to food poisoning?

Also, she is going to treat the dogs with Pepto Bismal. Good idea or no?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this.

pork ALWAYS make my dogs project bodily fluids out of both ends, it takes about 3 days for them to come back to normal.

One of my friends is a vet. This is what she has told me. Pepto Bismal is good. I'd also with hold food a bit, be sure they have water maybe even some pedylite ( misspelled I'm sure) Then tomorrow I'd give them some cooked rice with some ground beef. Yogurt is also good to restore their good bacteria.

OlliOlliOlli, she tells me that it is mucus-y. That doesn't sound good.

They are both eating and drinking, she says they are not lethargic at all.

Pedialyte...excellent idea. Thank you.

Mucus-y sounds like a stomach irritation/blockage...the stomach is overproducing mucus to account for an irritation. I'm not a professional though, I'm just going by past experiences with my many creatures.

Thank you all-Mom finally called the vet who told her to ride it out & see if it got better-told her to get the pedialyte & Pepto and both dogs are doing well.

Thank you all again.

Pork if there is a lot of fat associated with it - like marrow in bones and the fat from under the skin, will totally upset some dogs' guts.

It's VERY rich. If introduced a bit at a time dogs adjust, one big snack of it can do exactly as you describe. Massive indigestion. Pepto, electrolytes - pedialyte, and withhold food for 24-36 hours. Let the gut rest and it should self correct. If the mucousy runs continue - immodium is safe for dogs that size.

giving dogs cooked bones is always scary they splinter and can cause an obstruction or rupture the bowel
I would bring them to the vet if not better soon
Hope they recover quickly
