Just went out to the coop and one of my 21 week barred rocks was laying askew in a corner. She didn't come running when I tossed scratch for the flock (we have 7) and didn't move when I came over (they all usually scatter). She can't stand up and it seems to be her right leg. She got out of the henhouse fine this morning. i didnt hear any commotion this morning which would suggest an injury. I've isolated her with food and water. She ate eagerly when I put it within reach. What should I do for her?

How does her leg look? Is it curled under her or stretched out in a non natural position? Are her toes curled? Do you have a picture of her? Perhaps a posted pic might help determine what's wrong with her. Did you check her foot for injury?maybe seeing her photo will help us help you better.I wish you the best

Here is a picture. She has the right leg stretched out and prefers to lay on her right side. Her left leg is pulled in with toes curled up. When I first found her and tried to stand her up, she couldn't put weight on the right foot and flopped to the left.

Can I ask does she seem paralized on that leg? These symptoms are similar to Marek's symptoms .I sure hope I'm wrong. Is it possible to actually post her picture on this site.it would really help confirm or deny weather or not it actually fits the Marek's disease profile. Its hard to make a guess about something so serious without actually seeing the bird.like I was saying I sure hope I'm wrong here! Take a look online about Marek's disease symptoms and see if it fits her symptoms. Marek's usually causes leg to stick out and the bird is not able to walk. With Marek's the bird can be described as paralyzed in the leg. It comes to mind when your describing your situation. But I've not seen your bird so hopefully I am wrong.I wish you the very best! If you could post her picture it would be very helpful. God bless

I'm having trouble uploading a picture. She seems to be doing better, is now able to bear weight on both legs but can't walk without falling over. I've got her in a small crate so she can't move much, hoping the resting is helping. I'll go google Marek's. :( Thanks.

I'm happy to say my pullet seems to have recovered. I kept her in quarantine until bedtime tonight. She was standing this morning and spent the day acting totally normal, tho confined to a small space so unable to go far. I think to rest did her good. We'll see how she navigates to ramp out of the henhouse tomorrow morning. We are thinking she must have hurt her leg yesterday morning. Can chickens sprain an ankle? Crossing our fingers there's no relapse.

She spent the night with the others, came down the ramp just fine this morning and has spent the day in the coop with the flock as if nothing had happened. Do they recover them relapse with Marek's? Should we be worried still?
