We have a 5 month old Speckled Sussex pullet who just started crowing briefly at 6:15am on the dot. We live in an urban area and this is going to be a problem if it continues. I think it's our pullet who is just about to start laying--her wattle has gotten noticeably redder over the last few days and she was scouting nest locations in the coop yesterday. Is there any reason to think/hope that this might be temporary, that she might calm down and stop doing this? Is there anything we can do to stop it besides rehoming? I'm going to try to darken the coop today by putting something over the window. She's so sweet and pretty and a good friend to a chicken that gets picked on--I really don't want to rehome her.

Her comb reddening and finding nesting areas doesn’t mean it’s her, it just means that she is about to start laying. If a pullet crows it is going to be your most dominant acting pullet. However, do you have pictures of your pullets? Are you 100% sure they are indeed pullets. Even hatchery sexing is not 100%.

Thanks. I wasn't saying it was her because she appears to be starting to lay; I was just mentioning that for context. I think it's her because she's the most vocal and confident but am going to put a Ring camera into the coop tonight to try to figure out for sure. The first photo below (the one with the especially white head) is her. Our other pullet (darker head) started laying a few weeks ago.
