OK - the BYC Cayenne Pepper Mojo has all my hens laying again.
Even the foofy Houdan who really considers her eggs a gift not a profession.

Yesterday I gathered 2 eggs in the morning, then in the afternoon I found 2 more normal brown eggs & in the "unpopular" nestbox (that noone ever lays in) a small brown pullet egg.

My pullet still has her baby comb - teeny & pink - no wattles to speak of and she has given no sign that she was considering laying.
Could this egg be hers?
Or did someone give me an Oops egg along with their regular?

Matt - did your girls start laying without getting a grownup comb/wattles?
this little pullet is about half the size of the big girls, not a bantam but a cross of Wyandotte & Isa Brown

One I remember was an Easter Egger that never got comb/wattles. She lived for 4 years and never had a red face. A group was Australorps. The entire group started laying at 18-20 weeks old. None had the large comb or wattles and physically they seemed rather small to be laying. The eggs were a medium size. They did finish growing up and the eggs went to XL.

Matt

Edited to add that the Australorps did develop nice bright red combs and wattles once they finished growing up.

She is the first hen I raised from a 2-day old chick.
I think I may be getting Chicken Fever....

my pullets that laid were bantam and never got real wattles they still haven't got wattles 9/10 months old, does the pepper really work? I don't suppose it will help girls that are molting start laying again.
