i got my first egg 2 days ago then nothing yesterday today i got another egg this one was bigger and lighter in colour and it was in a different nest box does this mean 2 of my 6 have started to lay they are rsl about 23 to 24 weeks old. if so will the one that layed the first egg lay again soon or because they are so young is it going to be more sporadic . thanks for all info as this is my first ever chickens

It is really too hard to say if you have one or two girls laying. They sort of lay sporadically when they first start. It may be a couple of weeks before they lay regularly.

Congrats on the egg!!

Agreed. Mine do not always lay in the same nesting box even after several months of laying. When they start, it sometimes takes a couple of weeks for them to work the kinks out of the internal laying factory so the eggs can be a little different color and size. It is not that unusual to get an egg with a double yolk or a yolkless egg when they start. Some do start laying almost every day but some don't. Every chicken is different. I don't know where you are and what your weather is like, but with sex links that age and spring on the way (Happy Daylight Savings Time, btw) I'd suspect it won't be long before you are getting a lot of eggs.

I just got my first egg this week, too. It was from my Ameraucana and she has laid every other day so far. She laid her first egg in one spot and then the next two in a different spot. You might be able to tell how many are laying by their behavior. My Ameraucana definitely starts acting "funny" before she goes in to lay an egg. But it sounds like you have one that's just getting going and figuring it out. Congrats on the eggs!!
