Pullet Eggs

Our Lady bug has been laying for a month now. When will her eggs level out and be what they will be. She lays 6 days a week her single yolk eggs are small to medium size. Every second or third day she lays a double yolk egg which are as large as any store bought. I realize all hens are individuals and Lady Bug is just some cross containing light Sussex. I consider her a small hen.

The eggs will get get bigger, but how much, you'll just have to wait and see. I have a Speckled Sussex hen who is 2 1/2 yrs old and her eggs are medium sized. On the left is an egg from a 7 mo old Spitzhauben pullet, which is a standard size breed, her eggs will be bigger. Next is a bantam hen's egg, next, the Sussex hen's egg, and finally a leghorn hen's egg. I also have a barred rock hen and her eggs are even larger than the leghorn. By next spring, your pullet eggs should be their full size.

I would like to know this too. At first the egg was real small next it grew in size, after three like that, got an extra large, today back to a smaller one. None have been laid in the next box!

Pullet eggs can take days, weeks, or months to get up to their 'normal' size.

Our eggs are the same. Still love them and they taste GREAT

I guess it’s all part of the mystery lol! It’s driving me crazy looking 2-3-4 times a day looking for the next girl to give us another gift!

Just be thankful you are blessed with gifts. Still waiting on our pullets couple weeks young yet. So excited watching others.

You are so right! I got so excited at the first egg! I still do with each one I find! Happy Egging Day

I Know, Right!?
I still do after 4 batches of pullets...but the first year was the 'worst', I was out there every hour.

Yes very exciting we’ve got new layers too! I wait til my 5 yr old gets home form school everyday to let him find the eggs he loves this! Depending on our breeds they get a little bigger each time they lay. My red sexlink is our rockstar layer at this point I’m sure the others will catch up soon.
