Funniest thing happened the other day…



Our 12 week old RIR production red pullet, Miss Chickie, flew into our tree nursery, into a baby 8' apple tree and began to (purposefully) feed her flockmates apples! Who would've thought they could work in conjunction with each other?


Look at the look of delighted glee on Miss C's face after flying into the tree! Eureka! One of her flock-mates flew up on my shoulder to watch the action.
Sir Banty Bansalot watched for apple.

My geese reach up into the mature apple tree to pull lower branches down, then shake 'em to make apples drop. They do it for their own snacks, but the ducks and chickens gather 'round to snatch up fallen fruit.

Loved the look of delight and glee on her face. That's how I feel when I see a nice big cold beer at the end of a hot day. Fascinating that she deliberately sent apples down for the others. What a sweetie.

Update:
Can't keep Miss Chickie out of trees now. Everyday she's caught up in one of the trees, chowing down fruit. She digs her beak into an apple, then uses her feet to kick down fruits for the others. Her latest ambush is our table grapevines. Even small and sour, she loves them (I do give the flock plenty of treats everyday.). She drank my husband's coffee out of his cup, and now, she's teaching the others to fly into the trees too. Yesterday, she flew over their 8' run fence to land on my husband's head, who was bringing in their dinner container. Too funny.
