Hello all! This is my first year with chickens. I have 6 pullets, 3 of which started laying in the late summer (one olive egger, two GLWs). I understand that most chickens slow down or even stop laying through the short days of winter, but I have read that pullets usually continue to lay through their first winter. My two GLWs are still laying consistently, but my olive egger has not laid in 9 days. She started laying August 18, and other than this latest hiatus, she has been giving me a beautiful green egg nearly every day. She appears healthy and happy, normal in every way. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is this just her normal reaction to the shortening days?
FYI, they are fed non-GMO 18% crumbles, free-range for several hours most days, and get a handful of BOSS every evening and occasional fruit or veggie scraps.

Well, from the sounds of it, it's either the season, or stress. She stopped laying the day after I switched my coop and run over to sand - I wonder if that upset her? It could be the season, but my others are laying just fine. Today I switched back to shavings in the coop and shavings/leaves/yard trimmings in the dirt run, so hopefully if that was the problem she'll be happier now!

Chickens don't like change...so it could be stress related but since it is only ONE that has stopped I would think the sand change isn't the problem.

Egg Binding: Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention

She could just be molting...not always do the lose a ton of feathers.

Thanks, I'll read that one too. Pretty sure she's not moulting, as she's not quite 7 month old.

Would it be normal for her to be moulting, considering her age? I didn't think they would moult till next fall... but over the last couple of days I have been noticing a lot of grey feathers around, which could be hers.

Yes...if you are seeing feathers someone IS molting.
