Hello,

I have a 36 week old (8 month) pullet that hasn't laid yet. She is a brahma mix, and by looks she has more brahma genes so... is she just slow with laying because of her parentage or what? Her sister started laying a couple months ago.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you and may God bless,

I have one too, an April pullet who hasn't yet laid an egg. It could have something to do with length of day....days are gradually getting longer now. I'm sure eggs will come, eventually. Good luck!

Yep; I agree with sourland. That, or I think some bird breeds do take way longer before they lay their first egg. But since you're having to wait so long, hopefully she makes her first egg worth it! Lol. :D

[QUOTE"junebuggena, post: 19339962, member: 344567"]Yep. Brahmas take forever to mature. Don't switch her over to layer feed till she starts producing eggs. Layer feed can slow down development and make it take even longer for pullets to lay.[/QUOTE]
She's In with my other pullets and hens, along with a cockerel, and I don't have anywhere else to put her..

A cockerel shouldn't be getting layer feed anyways. It's a bit of a myth that you absolutely need to use layer feed. There is no magic ingredient in it. It's just lower protein feed with a whole lot of calcium added to it. I never bother with the stuff and I've got 4 year old hens that still lay daily. It's much safer and simpler to just keep everyone on a feed with at least 18% protein content and allowing the laying hens to regulate their own calcium intake via crushed oyster shell offered separately.

Three of my five 33 week olds of different breeds still haven't started laying, so you're not alone! I'm guessing the lack of daylight affected their maturity.
