Pullet or Roo? Pictures

Funny, I am not *quite* sure how old they are. They were supposed to have been born Feb 10th. But they had 2 hatch dates available at the farm and I'm not sure what ones I got . The other date was March 1st.

So, they are 3 weeks and 4 days, or they are 6 weeks and 2 days. And I have NO idea. I posted photos a while back and it sounded like they were too little to be older. But aren't they also too big to be younger? I feel really doofy not knowing, but these are our first chicks ever.

I have Black Australorps who were born on March 1st or 2nd, and they are way smaller than that guy...though I guess it is sort of hard to tell in photos. Yours look older than mine, though.

That's definitely a bummer. I sure do like him. My kids also knew from the get go that if any turned out to be boys, we'd have to rehome them. But they really are bummed at the possibility. Luckily, my Kindergarteners teacher will take the chick if he is indeed a roo. She said she wouldn't eat him, either. She said she has australorp hens and needed a rooster.

And it's not likely you can "hide" a rooster, is it? They are really quite loud, right?

Some more so than others...but I wouldn't chance it. At least you'll know he is going to a good home! And she will probably allow visitation rights.

I have Australorps hatched feb 22 and mine are more developed than yours, so I think they hatched march 1. I'm no expert (see my post "Australorp-male of female? 3.5 weeks" on the what breed or gender forum), but I think he's a he. Sorry, I know just how you feel!
