A ladder for my Houdan...the boyfriend is gonna love it when I tell him! He built my run and coop.
Oh! I could think out of the box and make a special 'tree fort' inside the coop for her. Little ladder going up to it and everything....
Went outside to check everyone last night.
Problem solved! The older pullets switched sides on the roost. The little Houdan was up there roosting with her buddies all cuddled up!
Sometimes if I wait a couple more days or one week more, my chickens solve their own concerns.
I have to learn to be more patient.
It's my policy that if they aren't killing each other they'll figure it out without human interference. Sometimes humans can only delay the inevitable squabbling that they need to do in order to get it all sorted out.
My only exception to this policy is with Lil' Bit (my half blind hen). I've seen her smash into the walls more than once when she tries to figure a roost out on her own. No depth perception.
I have a silver polish crested and an aracuana that sleeps on the floor of the coop in the corner snuggled together since the first time they were put in coop. They both seem fine.
