Pullet Sneezing. Worse than I think.

hi the tylan50 will help with that too.as for the breast remember I said first pull back on the plunger and if blood appears then reposition you know your fine and good to go when the blood does not appear.its about 3 inches away from the keel. as for tylan50 most ALL feed stores carry it.its in the section for cattle usually. remember I said the bottle will say for cattle and swine. but not to woo worry. .many poultry owners use it including myself. yes its likely the symptoms will worsen until your able to get the injection.may I suggest you watch a YouTube video that has a tutorial on how to give a breast injection. just look up injecting chickens with tylan. the video should come up.or search online for injecting chickens in breast.it might help give you the confidence you need. usually chickens won't even flinch with the injections. you will see. you likely will need to make a trip to the feed lot yourself for the Tylan. I've never seen a feed store NOT carry it. its extremely common. I wish you the very best of luck. give the antibiotic time to work. not much beats tylan for respiratory illness so your doing the best you can do for her. just know you should see improvements in a few days. best wishes to you. you CAN do this. your in my thoughts and prayers. best of luck.

CluckCluckluke, it is scary at first,i was terrified! I am so glad I did it though because I know it was worth it to help them. Mine never were gurgly thankfully, but it sounds like your girl could go downhill quickly if you dont treat! Realsis and Nicole95 were so helpful!! Mine will be getting their 2nd injections this afternoon!

My new ones have sneezed a few times too but I'm starting to think its to do with how they drink the water. I'm wondering if they had a shallow water system and now they have a deeper Bowl they are sticking their noses in as well and the sneezing is to clear the water out. Mind you I've also seen them drink till they vomit it back up so they are pretty clueless with this whole water thing.

Just a thought since yours have changed environments too.

Luke it may help to explain to your dad how cheap the medicine for these injections is. I know a lot of times when people hear about giving an injection rather than giving something orally one of the first things that comes to mind is that it must be much more expensive. Also, who will be taking care of the chickies when you're gone?

That video should work fine. Practice finding your location a couple times first before you're ready to stick. Also, clean the spot on the bird that you intend to stick with a little alcohol swab. You will be able to see much better and the sight will be clean. This part is *very* important, when you insert the needle into the bird, you need to pull back on the syringe *before!* you inject the medicine. If blood enters the syringe when you pull back that means you've hit a blood vessel and you do NOT want to inject the medicine there. No big deal, simply pull out move an inch in another direction and try again. Hitting a vessel is rare, typically you won't see blood in the syringe when you pull back, then you know its safe to inject the meds.

hi I was just thinking of you and wondering how are things going? did you go to the feed store? were you able to locate the Tylan50? did you give her injection yet? I hope you got a chance to see the video of chicken breast injection. when I gave my first breast injection I was a nervous wreck. but I was surprised how much using alcohol in the area helped my vision. just as above post says I was able to clearly see the fleshy area in the breast. remember to have a helper hold the bird and wings. this helped me greatly. but I was actually surprised the birds didn't even flinch none of my flock when getting their breast injection! so you see you won't be hurting the birds just helping them! remember your doses small bird is only 1/4CC large bird only 1/2CC. just once a day for 5 days. please keep us posted on how your doing I thought of you all evening yesterday. I wish I could just give the shot for you but sadly I can't... you can do this! just think how much better your bird will be! Nicole is correct and her advice is spot on. if you draw back the plunger and see blood NOT A BIG Thing just simply CHANGE position. not too close to keel and not too close to wing. I use keel bone as a guide. I go about three inches away from the keel right in the breast muscle not down low but up higher think of cleaning a chicken breast right in the good muscle area. it will be fast and after the first injection you will be a pro! please let us know how its going. thanks. best wishes
