Pullet started laying and stopped

They can be very sneaky about where they hide their eggs.
I'd confine them to coop and run for a week first(see below)....then maybe think about gloving up or adding calcium. An egg bound bird will usually appear to be very ill.

Not sure how prolific this 'breed', or rather cross, is at laying...she may be being affected by the shorter days....not all pullets lay thru the Dark Season.

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for a week or so can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. Fake eggs/golf balls in the nests can help 'show' them were to lay. They can be confined to coop and maybe run 24/7 for a few days to a week, provided you have adequate space and ventilation, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it. ..at least for a good while, then repeat as necessary.
So still nothing... i have her some calcium 2 night ago and it didn’t seem to make any difference. I have not gloves up to check yet as her behavior still seems normal and i don’t want to do needless cavity inspections. I did get a shell-less egg today. I still have at least 3 maybe 4 pullets who have yet to lay so i kind of figured it was one of them.

Lock em up for a week.[/QUOTE
I have been keeping them in the coop and run area until noon on hot days and when the weather is more mild i let them out closer to 5pm. So their has been 3-5 eggs in the nest box before we let them out. I though i was practicing the “earn you freedom” others have mentioned. But i will try to keep them in the coop and run for a week. The decoy is still in one box so i will get the golf ball for the other. Hopefully she has just been hiding them to “hatch” and i just am not looking in the right place.

Going by what I've seen posted by others. It seems that the late year laying is more likely with certain breeds. It also seems pretty individualized, some will continue to lay while others will slow. Still, while she's new to laying there are a lot of variables, I wouldn't be very concerned yet.

So still nothing. Got one shelless egg the other day.

It’s not possible that she laid 2 green and then started laying Brown is it? Everything i have read says that it’s not.

She doesn’t seem ill and acts happy. I am just baffled by the fact that it’s been like14 days now. I guess so long as she seems happy and healthy we will just keep waiting for her to come around again.

Lock em up for a week.
They are none too happy about this. I actually caved yesterday and let them out for 2 hours. I made sure the had lots of food and water and veggies to keep them busy but they were dying to get out in the yard. Part of me is hoping to discover a clutch somewhere so i can relax. Lol

Hello friends!
This is my first round of chickens ever. They are all 22 weeks.

My Meyer lakeshore egger laid her first green egg on September 9 and the 2 days later her second. Since then nothing. Both eggs were laid in the best box early in the day.

I do let my girls free range from 5-dusk during the week and then longer on the weekend. Since they are all just beginning to lay i am trying to wait until about noon to let them out to encourage the use of the best box.

She seems to be acting fine but i am curious if she is ok. Her breed info says she could lay 4 eggs a week. I am guessing it’s typical at the beginning of laying that they don’t lay as many as often but i wasn’t sure. Just want to keep up with their health if i am missing something.

Thanks for the input!

It’s not unusual between 20-25 weeks for pullets to lay irregularly and have weak shelled small eggs. They will eventually be bigger, stronger, and more regular. The color can be a few shades in difference but the color they lay tends to be the color they lay. Just make sure they are on layer feed with poultry grit and oyster shell free choice. The oyster shell will be the needed calcium for hard shelled eggs. The layer feed has lower protein 16% and more calcium to meet the needs of the hen at laying stage. Hope the reassurance helps! :)

I’m going through this very thing. I had my first blue egg on Sept 14 then found 2 shell less eggs then yesterday Sept 21st my second blue egg. Now today the 22nd no blue egg. As everyone suggested she’s just warming up.
Good luck.

I've heard of the strength of the color changing, getting lighter or darker. Think it's related to age and diet. But never heard of any changing color itself. A blue layer will always be blue. I would look into the shelless situation deeper. To me that seems higher on the list. Have any of the others been laying?
