OMG! My beautiful pullet, Rosemary, just swallowed a clear plastic screw! It was time for their return to the coop and she picked one up from I don't know where, (part of the Poultry Pod coop) and ran with it! I was able to corral her and she just swallowed it whole! I am scared she is going to choke, get impacted or it will poke through her intestines/stomach. I called my local ER and they said they have no experience with chickens (somebody in the background said, I have experience cooking them, but not treating them) and then called my local Avian hospital to be referred to their bird lady at home.
She said as long as she is not in distress, gasping, choking..etc, is eating and drinking she will probably poop it out but she called their vet at home and we have a first thing in the morning appointment.
He said she will poop it out or we will go to surgery to take it out.
I'll post a photo of the screw soon, I'm going to check on her again.......I feel so stupid and negligent...I hope nothing happens bad happens to her, I love my chickens so much.
