Pullet very bad eye problem ***PIC***

I would flush the eyes out 2-3 times a day.

If you are having to handle her by yourself, you may want to wrap (swaddle) her in a towel to help capture her wings and legs. This way you have more control. I usually do not hold a bird and try to work on them - I stand or lay them down on a table, this gives me more control too.
My husband try to help me and she is so little we had to stop. She is starting to know I'm helping her but still it's not helping. It could be that I only washed her eyes out 3 times the first day. Are you saying I should do it 2-3 times a day with the saline solution until heals? Thank you

It is possible to do this by yourself if necessary, just leave yourself a block of time so you can be patient. Wrap the hen in a towel to help hold her, and if necessary lay her on her back which will help calm her. Just take your time. The pus really needs to come out or you will just be fighting a losing battle. There are a lot more videos on line on removing pus from a chickens eye, do a search, one of them might be more inspiring to you. Sometimes it will come out with some manipulation, sometimes you have to use something to help get it out. I have curettes that I use for all sorts of things on chickens, not sharp, spooned on the ends. There is no telling what the initial cause is/was, could have been viral, could have been injury or debris in the eye. I would do a good rinse, clean it out as well as you can and flush it well. Then use the terramycin twice a day. Once all the pus is out, it should start to improve. You can get a stronger eye drop, but you will need a prescription from a vet, and the pus will still need to come out.

I'm going to start her back on the saline 2-3 times a day and see if that will loosen it so I can get whatever it is out. I know it's not viral/bacterial because she was just tested when she had this. I'm at a lose, but I will not give up on her. I'm so scared I'm going to hurt her because she is so tiny. I'm trying to find an avian vet around her and my vet won't do anything to help.....time to find a new vet!! Thank you

I'd go watch a ton of youtube videos. I've had to do things similar with cats, and you're probably not going to like how hard you have to push to get solidified pus out. :/

It's not an easy thing to do, and if you're already upset and shaky, (or have severe anxiety like me), you really can get yourself in a lather.

Yes, flush with saline 2-3 times a day an apply your ointment at least 2 times a day.

I'm very happy to say that my hens eyes are getting better!!! I was stumped on this because they were checked by state for any kinds of infection. When I finally got it under control with a ton of patients and getting all of the yellow thick gunk. She has been feeling and looking so much better. After I got all that mess out of her eyes, I then put her on some doxy and continued with the flush and terramycin. Thank y'all for helping her and me through this!!

Glad to hear that she is better. Even though she tested negative for respiratory diseases, they can get a bacterial infection in the eye from E.coli, pseudomonas, and some other bacteria that are around the coop.

Glad she is doing better, thank you for the update.

The testing you had done was for NPIP correct? Check your test results and see what they actually tested for. Most of the time it's just for Salmonella/Pullorum and AI. MG, Coryza, Infectious Bronchitis, ILT testing is normally not required.
