Hi! I have a young pullet.. probably 20 weeks old that I found unable to stand. Her right leg keeps going back behind her. Her left leg is fine.. she sits on it like a normal chicken would. She is alert, her wings work fine, she holds her head up she will eat.. but not much. When I first found her she had stinky liquid coming out of her mouth so I thought she may have sour crop. Her crop was not full but squishy. This morning it was flat. I have picked her up and inspected her leg. It isnt swollen, no bumble foot, i cannot find a break anywhere. I don't see any other signs of Mareks other than one leg behind her, so I don't think that is it. Any ideas on what to do to help her? I have her separate and I planned on giving her Vit B complex this evening. I am not sure if I should treat her for sour crop as well since it's empty and not stinky.
Amy help is appreciated

Stinky liquid coming from the beak, I would treat as Sour Crop according to the article below.

What do you feed, including treats?
Can you feel her joint to see if the tendon is slipped? Compare it to the other (good) leg.

Giving 1/4 tablet B-Complex is a good idea.

At her age and with the symptoms, I would not rule out Marek's disease unless you see signs of clear injury.

I haven't ruled Mareks out but she has no other symptoms other than the one bad leg. She will still even try to use it, she can grip with that foot she just cannot stand on it. She is alert otherwise.

Should I treat her for sour crop even though her crop is empty?

I am not sure how to check her leg for the tendon. I will see if I can find videos on it.

I feed layer feed from our local feed store and black fly larve in the am. Some frozen fruit if I have any since its hot as hades in TX.

Keep checking her crop throughout the day. I would start some anti-fungal medication—Monistat cream 1/2 inch or suppositories 1/3 twice a day, or give Nystatin, Medistatin powder in water, or Fluconazole. It does sound like she is having sour crop, or her crop is not functioning. It won’t hurt her. Hopefully her leg issue is not Mareks, but Mareks can affect the crop and other organs, and she is at the age where one may see symptoms.

Thank you. Do you know when the other symptoms of Mareks normally show? It seems like there is no real way to know she has it unless she is tested and we have 0 Avian vets in my area so I am on my own. I don't want her to suffer but I also don't want to cull her if she can get better. Its so hard to tell. Sucks.
