Sour crop question…is it time to euthanize?

Sidenote I don't think the massaging hurt her. I think it was just to bad and to far gone. I would recommend the massage and coconut oil to anyone dealing with this type of situation.

I will only keep one big hen in the future after having so many problems. She will only be used as a broody hen

Obstructions lead to sour crop and can cause pendulous crop over time . I treat with items you can can buy over the counter or in a grocery store or I cull them.People who work and have children don't have time to treat them all day or night massage their crops.Culling them is the humane thing to do.In all 3 of my hens its been caused by over eating and lack of activity on the hens part. They eat before anyone else eats too

I'm so sorry. I have no advice I hope someone more experienced on here sees this! Ours ended very sad, but she didn't make it a year. Is she gasping for air?
No. She gets up and out some days and does everything she did before. Then goes back to her favorite place, in the pine shavings filled wheelbarrow to spend the day. I move her around the yard if she doesn’t get out on her own so she can be with the others etc

I really regret not putting waddles down sooner and she suffocated when I massaged her crop one morning because she aspirated 😞
This is one of the last pictures I have of her.
She was a beautiful hen. I was alsways afraid truffles would aspirate when I tried emptying her crop. We eventually stopped. She started roosting on top of the nesting boxes so when she laid down, her crop would be propped up more than when it was hanging down while up on the roosting bar, so we just let her roost there. We found it helped her crop empty a little better. Unfortunately molting made her sour/pendulous crop worse and that’s when I had her out down.

Truffles was actually a pretty active hen, somewhere in the middle of the pecking order. I really don’t know what caused her sour crop. By the time I realized something was wrong it was already pendulous . So I now check my girls a lot more regularly. I hope that if this happens again I can catch it sooner and fix it before the crop becomes pendulous. The vet that put her down for me (as well as another vet I spoke with about this) thinks she may have had some over underlying issues that lead to crop stasis and thus pendulous and sour crop.
