I noticed that one of my 5 month old BOs has a swollen foot so I started searching for bumble foot because I remember reading about it a while back. but she doesn't have a noticable black scab that is prominent in these injuries, and she really isn't limping. I have separated her from the rest of the flock so she doesn't get trampled over if she is slower than everyone else. I tried to put her in the with the few Bantams I have but they weren't having that. so I put her in with my nearly blind chicken that I know won't bother her. anyways, I took a few pics with my cell phone cam. the quality isn't great, but you can see the difference in the size of the feet. I was thinking that yesterday I stepped on someone's foot when putting the waterer back into the coop and maybe it was her. I don't know, but I would love some insite, or experienced eyes to take a look. I may bring her in, and try to get more pics of her foot.

here is the bottom of her foot:

here are her feet together, you can see the swelling in the toes too:

Do try to get better pictures if at all possible. It doesn't really look like the pad of her foot is swollen.

It kind of looks like the middle toe is maybe a little crooked? She may have hurt her foot in some other way. If she is the one you stepped on then that could have done it.

Try to get some better pics though. I know it's not easy, even if you have a good camers. Unless they're unconscious they don't like to sit still. Also try to describe the foot as clearly as possible.

I will try to check back later. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help:)

I have a similar problem without swelling and/or scab hard place. (Sorry to hijack the thread - just gonna share what I'm doing.)

Mine started limping a few days ago, then she finally stopped walking on one foot, entirely. She hops, and then plops down and just stays in one place. She is now staying in one place all the time until she got really hungry. I picked her up and manipulated her foot, she didn't squawk or anything, but she keeps that one foot curled up, like she cannot open her toes.

So now I have her in the house, with food and water right next to her. She's gotten up to go lay an egg in a different spot (sweet thing!!) and uses one wing as a crutch for that leg she will not put weight on at all.

I don't know what's wrong with it, but it's NOT swollen, and there is no scab. So I'm thinking she hurt it, maybe coming down off a roost... and so I've segregated her where she won't be bothered, bumped, jostled (or mounted by the horndog banty roosters who take advantage of such moments!) and she can reach food and water.

I'm hoping .... it will heal.... I don't care if she limps or needs to be turned into a house chicken. I just don't want her to hurt!

With the discoloration on top it does look like bruising to me . Just baby her for a few days and see if anything chges. Hopefully with staying off it she'll start to get better.

here are some better pics of her foot. I cleaned it off somewhat to make sure there was no scab and to feel and see if the tissue was hard or soft. fyi it was all soft.

yes I realize her toe nails are rather long, not sure why they are that long.

her middle toe seems the most swollen, and she really didn't like that I was messing with her foot (unlike most of the bumble foot posts where the chicken didn't seem to care)
other than the little discomfort she has with it she seems fine, walking around, eating and drinking.

my best guess is that I stepped on her foot and maybe gave her a sprain/strained "ankle" or something like that.

when I massaged the pad on her foot is a soft and no warmer than the other foot. no one else has a swollen foot in the whole flock (40 others) but I do have another one limping without a swollen foot. so now I need to check that one too

the coloration, is bad lighting and mud and dirt. she had been outside all morning digging around and pecking around. I am hoping she will be fine in a few days and will keep my eye on her. and hey maybe she will lay an egg while in rehab. and I can see what her eggs look like!! it is about that time for her
