We hatched 7 chicks, 7/2, from mixed parents, so probably no true breed in this clutch. In the first two pics, the 1st black one, with gold on the chest, is probably from a BCMarans mix hen and a full BCM grandfather. The other 2 may be mix of BCM or Jersey Giant. The comb on the one in front is more pronounced. The other 2 are flattened. I'm thinking the front black one is cockerel and unsure of the other 2
The white and black one is probably from a Columbian Rock. I'm thinking cockerel. I would Really like to be wrong but not counting on it.
I know it is early but I'm guessing. What say ye? tia

Thanks. I thought the one in the middle with the flat comb, might be a pullet. We cannot keep all the males and don't want to hatch more at this time of year. Oh well, such is life. We'll keep all of them for another 6 weeks and decide.

That's my luck when I hatch. Nothing but cockerel. Gets frustrating.

Last cockerel suspect in pic.
I was spoiled last year (first chicks) 9 chicks hatched with only 2 cockerels. We purchased 8 chicks from RK (all supposed to be pullets) in May and only 1 cockerel (RIR). I cannot complain, they were $1 each and all healthy. Thanks.

The black and gold one looks like the only pullet. :hmm
Do you mean in the first picture of this thread? If so, that's the one I definitely thought was cockerel as the comb is the most pronounced. I'll continue to wait a little while as they are only 6 weeks today. I'm still a newbie, only having chickens for 15 months. Still learning sooo much.

Yes, the black one with gold chest feathers. She has a single comb, while the other dark ones have some sort of rose combs, which are flatter even in cockerels. Her comb is pale and pretty small for a single comb. Her feather pattern is also much more common in females than males.
