I have eight layers and just introduced six two month old pullets. I switched the food from layer to broiler (the layers had been on layer food; the young girls on broiler since about a month and a week old). The layers have always had free choice egg shell, and I figured chickens only eat it if they need it, but the young pullets are getting into it too. Obviously way too young to lay eggs - do I just leave it or is there a better way to make sure the layers get it and the pullets don’t?

They'll be drawn to and curious about anything that's new, that's probably why they're getting into it. Let them explore it and figure out what it is. Eventually they'll only eat it when they need it, and those exploratory first samplings won't hurt them.
